I have experience in working with many psychological and mental health difficulties but I have a specialist interest and experience in working with the psychological impact and mental health treatment for those who identify as being childless not by choice (CNBC).
Childless not by choice (CNBC) describes those who are living without children not by choice and due to circumstance by chance. This does not include those who choose to be childfree.
The number of people who are CNBC is increasing and the reasons why people may be CNBC can be multifaceted and complex. These may include but are not limited to fertility difficulties, having never met someone to have a child with, financial circumstances and more.
There is a slow but growing recognition of the experiences of those who are CNBC and the often associated emotional distress including grief, loss, trauma, shame and the impact on identity. These experiences can cause significant psychological distress.
CNBC can often be a taboo subject and those who are CNBC can often experience indirect and sometimes direct discrimination and stigma as a result of being childness. Society has a focus and culture rooted in family and those who are CNBC can often feel judged, invisible and devalued in society.
I want to use my professional knowledge, skills and expertise to enable those who are affected by the things that have happened to them to move towards living a fulfilling and meaningful life.
I want to promote awareness, education and understanding of childness not by choice and to work towards trying to challenge the stigma and discrimination associated with CNBC.
I aim to support those who are childless not by choice to find a way to manage the trauma, psychological and social distress they may experience.
