Clinical psychologist is a protected title under UK law and a qualified and practising clinical psychologist is required to be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). The HCPC is a regulatory body which ensures clinicians are appropriately qualified and maintain ethical and professional standards and ensures public protection. You can check the the HCPC register to ensure your clinical psycholgist is registered and is able to practice. Anyone using this title who is not registered are acting unlawfully.
In the UK the term 'psychologist' is not currently a protected title which means anyone can call themselves a ‘psychologist’ without acting unlawfully. The Association of Clinical Psychologists (ACP) are working hard with Parliament to remedy this. However, until this changes, it is advised that you check your clinician is appropriately qualified and has a form of registration. BPS membership is not a registration.
To check the HCPC register you will need the clinicians full name or their HCPC number.
It is not possible to predict how many sessions you might need until we have completed an assessment together. The assessment will enable us to develop a shared understanding of the difficulties you are experiencing and agree the focus of our work. We will then discuss the different psychological approaches that may be suitable and agree on how many sessions you may require.
All assessment and therapy appointments last approximately 50 minutes. Sessions are paid for at the time of the appointment. I can supply my fee information upon request. Fees are reviewed annually.
I primarily see people face to face as I prefer this method of working. I do, however also offer online therapy where requested.
